Answers for people getting started with LCFOA, including registration, pay, training, gear, and season time commitments.

Registration Association?

  • During registration on the OSAA website, choose Lane County Football Officials Association.
  • Once registered and your fees are paid, look for your Rule and Case books and OSAA patch in the mail.

What do I get paid?

  • Fees for officiating vary based on the level of the players. Fees vary from $60 to $100 per game.
  • As an official, you are paid as an independent contractor. You are responsible for reporting your income and related expenses at tax time.

How often do I officiate?

  • You are in control of your schedule. You determine how many days a week you are available using a free scheduling application.

How do I get trained?

  • Training is provided by the Association. New officials are provided weekly training sessions by the Rookie Trainer to get started.
  • Field positioning and rules are discussed to help you get ready for the season.
  • Training and rules discussion continue at weekly meetings during the season.
  • Those new to the Association are assigned a mentor for questions and support during the season.

How do I get uniform and gear?

  • The Association attempts to limit out-of-pocket expenses for new officials. Slightly used gear is available to all officials prior to the start of the season.
  • There are several uniform and equipment suppliers where gear can be ordered. The Rookie Trainer or your mentor can provide those options.

Time commitment

  • Training begins in early August with weekly training every Tuesday from 6p to 7p.
  • Once the season begins, the general Association meeting is every Tuesday from 7p to 8:30p until the end of October.
  • The length of games depends on the level of play. Youth games are usually 90 minutes and played on weekends. Upper-level games are 2 to 3 hours and usually played Monday, Thursday, and Friday.
